About us

Our history

What we do

Ingwerer is on everyone's lips! This favourite drink has always been produced by hand in Berne (Switzerland) with lots of love, care and a generous portion of ginger. We use organic ingredients that give the Ingwerer its unique and much-beloved flavour.

Of course, we use traditional craftsmanship and know that Ingwerer is best produced in good company and with a lot of rhythm. Incidentally, this is also the best way to enjoy Ingwerer...

Our heart beats for producing the best liqueur in the world! We have dedicated ourselves to the careful production of unusual liqueurs and, wherever possible, we work with local products and here, too, we focus primarily on organic quality. Our production facility is located in Bern on Zentweg, where our products are lovingly handcrafted.

What we stand for

Just as ginger grows, our company has also grown and become firmly rooted, with many different facets and characteristics. Ingwerer produces organic and locally wherever possible. We not only pay careful attention to our products, but also to our entire team. People are our priority and we stand for colourful, mixed cooperation, where fairness and respect are lived at eye level. This colourful mix, which is also reflected in language, musical tastes and humour, is ultimately what makes up our working atmosphere. And this is what ultimately gives our products their peppy, spicy flavour - welcome to Peppe GmbH!

What we support

First of all, it’s already clear that we – and our raw materials - are pretty open-minded when it comes to music. It unites us all, and many a ginger has been better processed with hot samba sounds, hip-hop beats or rocking guitar tones. In this sense, we are committed to cultural music creation, which unfortunately still receives too little support. Whether music festivals, concerts or bands - we want to be active and make a small contribution here.

This is what we have done so far

This day

It's almost like it was in the early days: a little less complicated, a little smaller, simpler, more direct, more personal, more local and more human.

All in all, like our Schnapps: simply good!

2026

Ingwerer Zenzero is now officially certified organic. This makes Zenzero both vegan and organic-certified.

2025

Kimchichi is here! After several explosive test runs, our first fermented food product has arrived—and it’s a stunner! Kimchichi is an Ingwerer-infused kimchi with plenty of spice and a solid kick of heat. It’s another project dedicated to closing our production loop—fully and completely! Our kimchi (which we naturally call "Kimchichi") is made with around 25% of our valuable pomace from the Ingwerer Zenzero production. As always: handmade in Bern, probiotic, and packed with a powerful punch of ginger.

2025

Just before Christmas, the first "Liaison Box" is launched! The "Liaison" is a collaboration with local partners, starting with Seshai Ginger Beer. The box features a beautiful design and contains Ingwerer/Zenzero, Seshai Ginger Beer, and two elegant glasses. Exactly! Perfect for a Ginger Mule—with or without alcohol. The glasses themselves also originate from another project started this same year.

2025

The "Ingwereretour" project was born from deep reflections on sustainability and the circular economy. Gastronomy businesses in Bern that are supplied directly by Peppe GmbH collect their empty Ingwerer bottles, which are then picked up during deliveries and returned to us. In collaboration with "Terra Vecchia," these bottles are upcycled into Ingwerer glasses. This allows Peppe GmbH to extend the lifecycle of our glass bottles.

2025

Ingwerer Zenzero is born! After an intensive development phase, we’ve done it: Peppe GmbH launches Zenzero, the first alcohol-free Ingwerer—now you can raise a glass without the alcohol! Zenzero has sparked immense interest and is a major highlight for cocktail enthusiasts. Finally, a Ginger Mule can be served 1:1 in an alcohol-free version without changing the recipe. Zenzero can be enjoyed neat, in a tumbler "on the rocks," and is perfect for cocktails and drinks. Ingwerer Zenzero is made with real food ingredients.

2024

For around four years, the company took a (geo)graphic excursion to Asia and travelled around various world markets.

In August, the time has come: Peppe returns to the company after around 4 years - at the latest now it is clear why the company has always been called Peppe GmbH - with him on board are Mänu and Steff - so a completely new management! And now time is up to go back to the roots! Our roots are growing from Bern out into the world - and with the most diverse rhythms!

2019

Shortly afterwards, Ingwerer is certified organic and vegan.

2018

Once again, Ingwerer packs its bags and moves, this time directly to Zentweg 1A, where we are still located today. Of course, this decision was not only made because of the suitable address, but also because there is enough space here in the new home, plenty of storage space and a proper ramp for the lorries.

2015

It's time to expand production and professionalise it even more. The cooking pots are also far too small. For this reason, the company moves into the ‘Alte Feuerwehr Viktoria’ ‘Autolavage’. The processes will be optimised here and a larger kitchen will be set up. In addition, all friends can breathe a sigh of relief, as the company now has its own storage space and no longer has to temporarily store bottles and various materials in the cellars of countless friends.

2013

The official course of the Ingwerer story began in 2013, when production had to be moved from the private kitchen due to increasing demand. A new production site was found for the next two years in ‘Café Kairo’.

Before 2013

Switzerland's first ginger liqueur - already named Ingwerer - was developed a few years before 2013. During this time, Peppe Jenzer developed and refined the drink over a longer period of time, which - whether out of perfectionism or simply boredom - ultimately led to a wonderful ginger liqueur! Ingwerer was born and has remained true to traditional craftsmanship and the recipe to this day.
